Our Impact
We have spoken at multiple conferences, contributed towards the development of guides and delivered training programmes – actively championing inclusive governance and lived experience leadership in the third sector.
2019
YBDT. We piloted our Young BME Digital Trustees programme, aiming to support young people from minority ethnic backgrounds onto charity boards to serve as digital trustees.
Beyond Suffrage. We launched our Beyond Suffrage trustees training programme to support women from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds onto trustee boards, building upon our learning from the YBDT pilot.
POC Impact. We took part in a Human Book event hosted by People of Colour Impact (POC Impact). POC Impact is a network that supports people from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds working in the third sector Our JEDI training. We launched our inclusive governance trustee board training, delivering workshops and facilitating strategy days on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI).

2020
IoF. We took part in an event hosted by the Institute of Fundraising (IoF), speaking to attendees about power, privilege and the role that fundraisers can play in helping to drive inclusion in the charity sector.
Hertfordshire Community Foundation. We took part in the Hertfordshire Community Foundation Trustees week event, where we shared the history of the Beyond Suffrage programme and our work around inclusive governance.
Charity Governance Code. We contributed towards the development of Principle 6 of the Charity Governance Code. We took part in the roundtable event alongside the steering committee, and shared the importance of making Equity, Diversity and Inclusion strategic, and the benefits of having firm targets in place to measure progress against.
Wales Centre for Public Policy. We took part in a roundtable event hosted by the Wales Centre for Public Policy on behalf of the Welsh government, to encourage diversity in public appointments. We led the discussion on specific support that can be provided to individuals from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds to support them onto boards, sharing our insights from delivering the Beyond Suffrage programme.
Transforming Board Cultures Guide. We released our Transforming Board Cultures (TBC) guide which built upon the inclusion work we were doing at Social Practice ENT, and insights from delivering the Beyond Suffrage trustee training programme. Our guide is a useful resource, helping to support charities with the recruitment and inclusion of young women from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds onto boards.
BME Online Conference. We took part in the inaugural BME online conference, an event hosted to support fundraisers from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds working in the voluntary sector. We shared information about inclusive recruitment practices and our Beyond Suffrage trustee training programme.
Sector engagement. We contributed towards the development of guides produced by sector partners including Getting on Board, to help encourage the recruitment of individuals from underrepresented groups onto charity boards.
2021
Beyond Suffrage. We ran our second Beyond Suffrage trustee training programme, supporting a cohort of fourteen young women nationwide.
Lived Experience Trustees. We launched our inaugural Lived Experience Trustees (LET) training programme in partnership with Women in Prison, the aim of which was to support women with lived experience of the criminal justice system onto charity boards. The programme was delivered alongside a board development programme for participating charities including Working Chance, Hibiscus and Clean Break.
Trustee recruitment ads. We distributed trustee recruitment adverts, sharing them with our network on Twitter and LinkedIn, to help increase the pool of candidates from Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic backgrounds applying for trusteeships.
Clinks. We took part in the Clinks service user engagement event, sharing our early insights from delivering the Lived Experience Trustee training programme in partnership with Women in Prison.
JEDI workshops. We continued delivering our inclusive governance trustee board workshops and strategy days, that focused specifically on Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI).
ICSA. We took part in a panel event hosted by the Chartered Governance Institute on International Women’s Day, sharing our views on how the governance profession can be more diverse and inclusive.
Sector engagement. We contributed towards the development of further guides and resources produced by sector partners including Reach Volunteering and Action for Trustee Racial Diversity (ATRD) to help encourage the recruitment of individuals from underrepresented groups onto charity boards.
